BASICS OF BREWING
Importance of Grind Size
The Aeropress combines immersion and pressure in a short 1-2 minute brew, making a medium-fine grind the ideal starting point. This size extracts efficiently during the brief contact time while still allowing smooth, even pressing through the filter.
The beauty of the Aeropress is its versatility — you can adjust grind size to completely change the style of your cup. Go finer (towards espresso range) for a concentrated, intense shot with more body. Go coarser for a longer steep that produces a lighter, tea-like brew with more delicate flavors.
For the standard method, aim for a texture like table salt. If pressing feels too hard, your grind is too fine and the cup will taste bitter. If it presses with no resistance, go finer — you are losing flavor to under-extraction. The press resistance itself is your best feedback tool for dialing in the perfect grind.
