Producer Story

Legend says it started with seven seeds. In the 16th century, Sufi mystic Baba Budan smuggled coffee beans from Yemen and planted them in the hills of Chikmagalur - an act that gave birth to Indian coffee. The Bababudangiri Range, named after him, remains one of India's most storied coffee-growing regions: high altitude, dense forest canopy, volcanic soil, and morning mist that moves slowly between the trees. Ghost Brew grows here. Shade-grown, unhurried, and shaped by the same land that gave India its first cup. Some origins carry weight. This one carries history.

Ghost Brew - A coffee without compromise

Baarbara Estate sits deep in the Bababudangiri Range - a stretch of misty highlands in Chikmagalur, Karnataka, that has been producing coffee since before India had a coffee industry. The estate traces its roots to 1896, making it one of the oldest continuously operating coffee estates in the country. Over more than a century, it has developed a farming philosophy grounded in patience, shade cultivation, and minimal intervention - a philosophy that shows up in every cup. The estate grows shade-grown, single-origin Arabica at elevations between 4,500 and 5,000 feet. At this altitude, the combination of cool temperatures, volcanic red soil, and the natural canopy of silver oak and jackfruit trees creates ideal conditions for slow cherry development. Shade-grown coffee produces fewer cherries per tree - but those cherries develop more evenly, with greater density and more complex flavour compounds than sun-grown alternatives.
