Shyira Crest - Red Bourbon Washed
Rwanda’s Shyira 15UP Red Bourbon Washed is a vibrant and articulate coffee from one of the country’s highest-elevation washing stations. This lot bursts with clementine brightness, honeydew sweetness and raisin nuances, supported by a crisp body and layered citric acidity. Ideal for both specialized filter brewing and expressive espresso, Shyira delivers a vivid yet refined sensory journey.
Overview
Shyira 15UP Red Bourbon Washed originates from the elevated slopes of Nyabihu where volcanic soils and cool climates create slow cherry maturation and intense flavor development. Hand-sorted cherries are processed with a disciplined washed approach — pulped, fermented and dried on raised beds — preserving clarity and accentuating fruit layers. The cup opens with deep raisin aromas, transitions into lively clementine brightness, and finishes with a clean honeydew finish. Balanced acidity and refreshing body make this coffee rewarding across methods, from pourover to espresso.
Origin Story
Perched high above Musanze at around 1850 MASL, Shyira Station is surrounded by dramatic volcanic peaks and rich mountain soils that nurture Red Bourbon coffee. The regional terroir contributes to vibrant acidity and refined structure, hallmarks of Rwanda’s washed coffees. The environment — rich in mineral composition and consistent cloud cover — supports even ripening and enhances cup clarity.
Producer Story
Managed by Muraho Trading and local partners, Shyira Station is one of Rwanda’s most distinctive washing stations due to its altitude and focused quality ethos. The team emphasizes precise picking and processing, investing in community agronomy and infrastructure to elevate micro-lot quality and bring refined Rwandan coffee to specialty markets.
