Overview

Madikeri Might is sourced from the high-altitude Robusta plantations of Madikeri in Coorg - Karnataka's most celebrated coffee-growing district, deeply embedded in the history of Indian coffee. Growing at 800–1,100 metres in the shade of pepper vines and fruit trees, these Robusta cherries mature slowly in the cool, mist-heavy Western Ghats climate, building a dense, bold character in each bean.

Robusta as a species naturally contains 2.7% caffeine compared to Arabica's 1.5%, making it significantly stronger in both kick and flavour intensity. The Madikeri Might lot is washed processed, which preserves structural clarity while supporting the deep earthy and smoky notes that emerge during medium-dark roasting. The result is exactly what South Indian filter coffee drinkers have depended on for generations - a heavy-bodied, intensely aromatic cup with low acidity, strong decoction performance and a lingering finish that holds its character even when cut with full cream milk and sugar.

Strength scale: 10/10. This is not a subtle coffee. It is a declaration.

Origin & Estates

Madikeri Might is sourced from estates in and around Madikeri town - the administrative headquarters of Kodagu (Coorg) district in Karnataka. Coorg is one of India's most productive coffee-growing landscapes, with smallholder estates and larger plantations operating side by side under dense forest canopy. The district's consistent rainfall, misty mornings and deep laterite soils create ideal conditions for Robusta cultivation at elevations between 800 and 1,100 metres. Madikeri's Robusta has received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag from the Government of India, formally recognising its distinct regional character - a mark of authenticity that fewer than a handful of Indian coffee regions carry.

THE ORIGIN

The Coorg Robusta Tradition

Coorg's coffee culture is one of the oldest in India, with cultivation dating back to the 17th century when Baba Budan brought seven coffee seeds from Yemen to the Baba Budangiri hills nearby. The Robusta grown in Madikeri today represents the modern face of that legacy - cultivated by families who have farmed these hills for generations, many managing estates under 10 acres alongside pepper, cardamom and oranges. Unlike commodity Robusta grown purely for volume, Madikeri estates practise shade-grown cultivation under native and planted canopy, which slows cherry ripening and concentrates flavour. Selective hand-picking and washed processing at estate level or local cooperative stations ensure structural integrity. The beans that make it into Madikeri Might have been chosen for density, consistent size and strong cup performance — the qualities that make Coorg Robusta the backbone of South Indian filter coffee and one of India's most exported coffee varieties.
