Overview

Mondul Peak AA Washed is a meticulously processed Tanzanian coffee that highlights finesse over force. Grown on the fertile slopes of Mondul Mountain in the Arusha region, this coffee benefits from high elevations and mineral-rich volcanic soils near Mount Meru — one of Africa’s most distinctive coffee-growing landscapes.

The AA grade designation refers to bean size and density: only the largest, heaviest beans make the cut, which correlates with slower, more even roasting and a more consistent extraction in the cup. It is a grading system Tanzania inherited from its East African neighbours and one that Mondul Estate applies with rigour across every harvest.

The washed process brings out the coffee’s defining qualities — clarity, delicate florals and refined acidity. Ripe cherries are pulped, fermented in clean mountain water, and dried on raised beds. In the cup, expect black tea aromatics on the nose, subtle tamarind brightness through the mid-palate, and wood apple sweetness on the finish, supported by a medium body and gentle, tea-like structure.

Roasted light to preserve the floral top notes and the delicate acidity that makes this lot distinctive, Mondul Peak rewards slower extraction methods - V60, Kalita Wave, Chemex - that allow its layered character to unfold gradually. It is an ideal choice for drinkers who value precision, balance and a clean finish over body or sweetness.

Producer Story

Mondul Estate is one of Tanzania’s historic coffee estates, situated on the slopes of Mondul Mountain in the Arusha region, in the shadow of Mount Meru. The estate is managed with a strong emphasis on sustainability and quality control, integrating responsible water use, soil management and worker welfare into its operations.

Tanzania’s coffee industry is built on a mix of smallholder farmers and larger estates, with the Arusha and Kilimanjaro regions producing some of the country’s most celebrated washed lots. Mondul Estate sits within this tradition, applying the kind of disciplined, estate-level processing that produces consistent, traceable, specialty-grade coffee year after year.

Each lot is carefully graded, with AA representing the highest bean size and density - a designation that reflects not just physical quality but the estate’s commitment to sorting and selection at every stage of processing. This disciplined approach has earned Mondul Estate a reputation for consistency and excellence, producing coffees that reflect both heritage and modern best practices.

Brew Guide

This Tanzania AA washed single origin performs best as a Espresso, French Press, V60 or Kalita Wave pour-over - the open brew method gives its black tea aromatics and tamarind brightness room to fully express as the cup cools. Chemex and AeroPress also work beautifully. Best enjoyed black, without milk.
